A man who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males both between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and one adult became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel said items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his worries.
She explained Ruben went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement again.
She said the man then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five children.
